Security teams in Jordan detained three men on Monday morning following a violent raid in the Karak governorate.
The men were taken into custody after a shootout at dawn, according to the Public Security Directorate. All three suspects were wounded during the operation, while no members of the security forces sustained injuries. The incident occurred in the village of Hammoud, a community with a minority Christian population located south of Amman.
The initial attack happened on Friday during a funeral service at a Greek Orthodox church in Hammoud. Officials reported that three individuals participated in the assault. No group has formally claimed responsibility, and no armed organization has been publicly identified as the perpetrator. Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya confirmed via phone with state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka that the three arrested men were responsible for the incident.
Al-Faraya stated that security services fulfilled their duties by capturing those who carried out the act. He described the suspects as putting up fierce resistance before being subdued and taken into custody with severe injuries. The minister added that the individuals had been identified early in the investigation and that authorities used all available means to apprehend them.
The Public Security Directorate issued a statement saying that terrorism has no place among the people and that the men met their just fate. The directorate did not name the suspects or point to specific links to Islamist militant groups. King Abdullah II directed authorities to respond with an iron fist against those he described as outlaws of Islam and anyone seeking to undermine national unity.
