Residents of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties should prepare for wet weather this weekend as a storm system approaches. The National Weather Service issued a forecast on Monday predicting rain levels between half an inch and two inches across the region. This weather pattern marks a shift from the dry Halloweens that have characterized recent years.
Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, are the primary days for expected rainfall. A low pressure system will drive the precipitation and remain active through Sunday. Meteorologists note that this is the first time since 2014 that Los Angeles has seen rain on Halloween night.
Temperatures will drop alongside the rain. Los Angeles residents can expect highs in the upper 60s to low 70s on Friday, falling to the 60s on Saturday and Sunday. In Orange County, highs will range from the upper 60s to low 70s from Friday through Sunday. Those in the Inland Empire should anticipate highs in the mid-60s for the entire weekend.
Meteorologists advise residents to adjust their plans for the holiday. Rose Schoenfeld, a weather service meteorologist, suggested having a backup plan in case the rain becomes inconvenient. “Have a little bit of a backup plan if it gets too rainy that it stops being fun, but we’re certainly not saying to shut down Halloween. Just have a little bit of extra caution,” Schoenfeld said.
Experts urge caution for anyone driving or walking during the holiday. Sebastian Westerink, an NWS meteorologist, recommended that people bring umbrellas, extra clothing layers, and monitor official weather alerts. “Make sure you stay informed on the weather by an official weather source as to plan around or with the rain and I would say to be careful on the roads,” Westerink said.
