At the Skirball Cultural Center last week, the American Jewish Committee gave Stacy Phillips the Judge Learned Hand Award. Phillips practices family law at Blank Rome's Los Angeles office. Alan Hoffman, her former boss and a past recipient of the same award, presented it to her.
The award recognizes attorneys for professional achievement and community service in justice, carried out with integrity and in the interest of public service.
Phillips has chaired Public Counsel, described as the nation's largest pro bono law firm. She helped draft California legislation that lengthens the window for domestic violence survivors to bring civil claims against those who harmed them. She also created the Adopt-A-Center-Program, which pairs Los Angeles area charitable organizations with mentors.
The gathering doubled as a fundraiser and brought in $900,000. The money will go toward countering antisemitism and other forms of hate, and toward AJC's work on democratic values.
Phillips addressed the room at the event. "I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with AJC's mission to fight all forms of hatred," she said. "I hope we all agree that there is no place in this world for antisemitism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia or any other form of hatred."
The American Jewish Committee states that the Judge Learned Hand Award honors attorneys whose professional achievements and community service advance justice with integrity in the interest of public service. Blank Rome maintains an office in Los Angeles where Phillips handles family law matters.
